Free Early Education & Childcare (term-time only)

Universal 15-hour entitlement

Who: All 3‑ and 4‑year-olds in England.

15 - hour entitlement for eligible 2 - year olds

Who: Families on certain low-income benefits, children with additional needs, or looked-after children.

15 hours for 9 - month up to 3 - years olds (working parents)

Began Sep 2024: Working parents gained 15 hours/week for children aged 9–35 months .

30 Hour Working Parent Childcare Scheme

Who: Working parents (both or sole parent) earning at least the equivalent of 16 hours/week at minimum wage and each under £100k/year.

What & When:

As of Sep 2025, eligible working parents of children aged 9 months–4 years can access 30 hours/week (i.e., double the current provision) workingfamilies.org.uk+15educationhub.blog.gov.uk+15education.hackney.gov.uk+15thetimes.co.uk+2educationhub.blog.gov.uk+2surreycc.gov.uk+2.

For children aged 3–4 already eligible, the 30‑hour scheme continues.

How to get it:

Check eligibility with your National Insurance number.

Apply via the Childcare Choices / HMRC portal.

Receive an 11‑digit “code” and give it to your provider.

They can stretch funding across more than 38 weeks—check with your provider for arrangements.

Universal Credit Childcare Element

Who: Families on Universal Credit.

Other Support Schemes

For students: Eligible higher-education students may receive help via Childcare Grant or Parents’ Learning Allowance; under-20 FE students can apply via Care-to-Learn commonslibrary.parliament.uk.

Tax‑Free Childcare vs discontinued voucher schemes: Old childcare voucher programmes closed to new users in 2018; TFC is now the main replacement gov.uk+2en.wikipedia.org+2gov.uk+2.

What You Should Do as a Parent

Check eligibility via Childcare Choices (gov.uk) or with your provider.

Apply/create your childcare account through HMRC / Childcare Choices.

Get and share your 11‑digit code with your provider.

Reconfirm eligibility every 3 months to maintain funding.

Plan for any optional “extras” (meals, items) and check provider policies to avoid surprise fees.

Settling In Period

To help your child settle into nursery life smoothly and confidently, we offer a settling-in period over three days, completely free of charge.

Duration: 1 hour per day

Length: Over 3 consecutive days

Purpose: To help your child become familiar with our environment, staff, and daily routine in a calm, gentle way.

Cost: Free of charge

This gradual introduction helps to build trust and ease any anxieties—for both your child and you as parents. We encourage you to stay for the first 10 minutes of the first session if needed, and we’ll keep you updated at the end of the sessions. 

Tapestry - Our Online Learning Journal

We use Tapestry, a secure online platform, to record and share your child’s learning journey during their time with us.

Through Tapestry, you’ll receive regular updates that include photos, videos, and observations of your child’s development, activities, and milestones. It’s a wonderful way to stay connected to their progress and day-to-day experiences at nursery.

Updates: Posted biweekly (every other week)

Access: Secure and private – only you and our staff can view your child’s journal

Engagement: We warmly encourage you to like, comment, or even add your own photos or stories from home to support your child’s learning and development
